Seats, Education, And Travel Safety Program (SEATS)

Prepaid Medical Assistance Program (PMAP), MinnesotaCare, UCare Connect + Medicare and UCare Connect members

Car-related injuries are the leading cause of death among young children. That’s why UCare wants to make sure your child is safe in the car. Through our SEATS program, we give free car seats and safety education to eligible UCare members who are either pregnant, or are children up to age 8.* UCare works with Public Health and other agencies statewide to give car seats and safety education to members.

Learn about car seat safety

Knowing how to install and use a car seat is very important, and it's a requirement for a UCare member to get a free car seat. Depending on where you live, you can have in-home visits or go to classes to learn how to install and use the car seat the right way.

Eligible members will be given one of the following types of car seats, based on the member’s age, weight, and height:

  • Convertible car seat – for both rear-facing and forward-facing
  • Combination car seat – for forward-facing with and without a 5-point harness
  • Backless booster seat

*You must pre-register; typical wait time is two to three weeks. The seat style for each child will be decided by the agency that gives you the seat. Limits apply. Pregnant members and children up to age eight must be current UCare member to participate in the SEATS program.
